WORD PICTURE: Children’s Book of ABCs
Scriptural References:
Psalm 89:8 -- O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you.
Psalm 83:18 -- Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD—that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
Ephesians 2:4-6 -- But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.
1. Have someone(s) read the scriptures from various translations.
2. Hold up a children’s book of ABCs. One with bright pictures and very little text would be good. Show some of the pages and point out how many of the words are either names or descriptions of things. Some are action words.
3. My sharing, offered to spark sharing by others.
What I Shared
I have a children’s ABC book with a Christian theme. My favorite page in this book is “XYZ ,“ because I am just (listen carefully now) eXhilarated living with God. I also need to be flexible, because when I give Him my life to live in and through, He takes me up on it. Sometimes I feel so exhilarated that I spend hours on the phone with someone calling out of the blue to say, “It’s my birthday and God told me to call you.” And we end up talking about Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life -- the only way. It takes hours. And it’s time well spent. So, “exhilarated” is a description of how I feel because of my relationship with God.
This is a fun and flexible BS-Buster. We can each pick a letter of the alphabet that describes how we feel as a result of knowing God, such as A for Absolved, B for Believing, and C for Changed. Or we can pick a letter that describes God Himself, such as A for Awesome, B for Bread of Life, C for Creator, and so on. Or what about action words for God, such as A for Answers Prayers, B for Brings us Peace, C for Cleanses our Sins?
So my question for you is: where shall we start?
