 Measuring Cup

WORD PICTURE: MEASURING CUP

Scriptural Reference: Psalm 118:8

It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.

1.  Read Psalm 118:8.  Hold up measuring cup filled up halfway up and provide these interesting questions (which arrived one day via e-mail):

Q: What is the shortest chapter in the Bible?  A: Psalm 117.

Q: What is the longest chapter in the Bible?  A: Psalm 119.

Q: Which chapter is in the center of the Bible? A:  Psalm 118.

2.  Share these interesting facts:

Fact: There are 594 chapters before Psalm 118.

Fact: There are 594 chapters after Psalm 118.

Fact: Add these numbers together and you get 1188.

Q: What is the center verse in the Bible?  A:

 Psalm 118:8!

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

3.  Now isn’t this odd how this works out -- or is God at the center of it all?!?   I suggest that, the next time someone says they would like to find God’s perfect will for their lives, just send them to the exact center of His Word!

What I Shared

I believe that God has a purpose and plan for my life -- namely, I am to help people get interested in weighing the claims of Jesus in order to make their own educated decisions about those claims.  If I were to state my mission, it might go something like this:

Encouraging people to investigate the claims

of Jesus so that they may choose (rather

than refuse) for themselves.

My idea of the perfect day/week/month.  My perfect day would include:

“Bookending” the day start and finish with the Lord.

Prayer walk and dog run on the beach.

Helping someone turn to the Lord.

Singing (ideally in harmony with someone) in the Spirit

Good food completely available when I need it without prep.

Professional desk time (ideally ministry-related)

Personal desk time (writing, e-mails, banking and bills)

Question: What’s YOUR idea of the perfect day in terms of God’s purpose and plan for your life?

All Scripture references from the New International Version of the Bible (NIV).
